Catalina Leuro-Rey, Noches de Colombia

Noches de Colombia is a successful chain of restaurants with 16 locations throughout northern New Jersey.  Catalina Leuro-Rey is a co-owner and we met at their restaurant located at 19 Elm Street in Montclair to discuss her business.

Catalina moved to the US with her family and after years in the medical profession decided to switch careers and joined Noches de Colombia in an ownership position with 3 other partners.  Her primary focus has been their restaurant in Montclair at 19 Elm Street.  In the nearly 3 years that this location has been open, they have enjoyed steady growth and have developed a loyal following in the community which has been no easy task considering the number of restaurants from which to choose in Montclair.  noches de colombia logo

One of their biggest challenges is not just introducing the community to Noches de Colombia but introducing them to Colombian cuisine. The Montclair location hasn’t invested in advertising so word of mouth, personal recommendations and online reviews have been their main channel to attract patrons.   The good food and the attentive service is what compels them to return.

Ms. Leuro-Rey is heavily involved with expanding the chain.  She and her team are currently adding a location in Randolph, NJ.  The former Blockbuster Video site at the Kmart center, 140 State Route 10, is being completely remodeled (inside & outside) to bring Noches de Colombia to Randolph.

The new restaurant will bring a huge boost to the Levco managed shopping center which has seen long term tenants such as Pathmark, Radio Shack, Subway and Kmart move out over the past few years.    LA Fitness started the center’s resurgence with a new gym constructed on the former Pathmark site.  Noches de Colombia is the next strong tenant to invest in a new site at the shopping center and per the management team at Levco, is just the next of many new businesses planning to open at the Randolph center.  A refurbishment of the center’s exterior is also planned to coincide with the arrival of new tenants.

Noches de Colombia has taken two spots at the center, the Blockbuster space along with the space next door which formerly hosted a restaurant.  Along with a full bar, Noches de Colombia will have a bakery, take out service as well as delivery service for the local area.   The construction project will expand the current kitchen area, add the bar, enhance the exterior appearance and add a large sign visible to Route 10 traffic on the sid
e of the building.

which is their signature cheesey sweet bread and bandeja paisa which is a hearty meal consisting of steak, fried egg, beans, chicharon (fried pork rind), plantains and rice.  Natural juices, such as guava, blackberry and soursop are imported from Colombia are served along with their special passion fruit sangria.

Noches de Colombia, 140 State Route 10 in Randolph is targeting a grand opening in December 2016.
